I mentioned in the previous post that there are two 9 Boxes for holding audio clips. The beta template comes with some basic original royalty free content I created. You can refill on the fly without stopping the audio simply by dragging new 9 Boxes in. In the beta kit I provied another _2x9 Box Synth Arps 01.alp which contains an Ableton Live set in the following format.
Open this file, drop in your own audio clips, save the file as a new .als file. If you are an educator or music therapist, you can use audio content from the vast array of loop libraries available on the market. If you want to have some real fun, use some field recordings.
Once you have the file saved as an Ableton Live set, simply drag it into the base template. Here is a little flash movie that illustrates the idea (watch embedded video in Quicktime instead).
The template is labelled “2x9 Box” because it contains two 9 boxes. If you create an .als file that only contains the first 3 columns you can drop in a single 9 box at a time to either the Tone or the Rhythm box.
As you can see, this is quite a flexible way to endlessly drop new files into the 9 Boxes without stopping the audio. So, start with ambient, move on to techno, you can even load entire songs into clips if you like.
Happy jamming.
